The Federal Member for Aston, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, has announced a second round of funding of the Coalition Government’s Safer Streets Programme.
The $29.4 million funding round will be available for individual grants to local government, not-for-profit organisations and community groups to improve community safety and crime prevention initiatives in Knox.
Under the first round of grants, $19 million was provided to community groups and local councils.
The Safer Streets Programme is funded by confiscated proceeds of crime to help deter crime and catch criminals.
Mr Tudge said the Safer Streets Programme has already provided security cameras at Wantirna Mall, Mountain Gate Shops and improved lighting at Alchester Village Shops.
“People in Knox have the right to feel safe and secure, so initiatives including the installation of better lighting and CCTV, are important tools in the effort to monitor local crime hot spots and stamp out crime,” Mr Tudge said.
“I will keep working with the community to keep Knox safe.”
Applications close on 17 February 2016.
