Federal Member for Aston Alan Tudge MP has called on the Federal Government to stop irresponsible spending, end wasteful government advertising and deliver a surplus.
“It’s clear with less than one week til the Budget that the Federal Government’s Budget is in chaos”, said Mr Tudge.
“The Prime Minister and Treasurer don’t have an economic strategy, only a political strategy for more debt, bigger deficits, more taxes and even more wasteful government advertising.
“Local families are paying for the waste and overspending – with 30 tax increases or new taxes under this government and $7 billion paid in interest every year.
“The government says it has a revenue problem, it doesn’t. It has a spending problem. Revenues this year are $70 billion higher than the last year of the Howard Government and expenses are up $100 billion.
Mr Tudge said he was concerned at the chopping and changing of promises by Julia Gillard.
“Julia Gillard is saying ‘everything is on the table’ which is another way of her saying that she is going to break more promises, increase more taxes and waste more money.
Mr Tudge said he was concerned at the tens of millions of dollars the government was currently throwing at TV advertising, all of which was paid for by borrowed money.
“Our TV screens are being bombarded with government ads for child care, education and the NBN, at the same time as our gross national debt is heading towards $300 billion.
“The money spent on these ads could be used on our schools, hospitals or to reduce the buden on working families.”
“The Coalition will end the chaos and restore the strong, stable and accountable government that Australians’ deserve.”
