You may not have known that a part of the F-35 Strike Fighter, one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, is actually made in our local area.
I was recently able to visit the local RUAG facility with our Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price, and learn about the innovative work they are doing to build and repair parts for these amazing aircraft.
The visit wasn’t just to see the great work they’re doing. We were also there to celebrate and award one of their longest serving employees and Senior Manager, Neil Matthews, for his outstanding service to the defence industry.
It was a proud moment for Neil to receive the award from Minister Price in front of his wife, children and colleagues. This was a well-deserved commendation for his many years’ service to the industry, first as a RAAF serviceman and now as a manager delivering world class manufacturing across the globe.
Melbourne truly is Australia’s home of manufacturing and businesses like RUAG show that Knox is leading the way as a manufacturing hub. This is great for our local community, with new jobs and opportunities being brought to our area.
As the local Federal MP, I’m proud to be a part of a government that takes jobs and businesses seriously. We understand the importance of local businesses to our economy. We have cut taxes and signed free trade agreements that give these businesses the local and international opportunities they need to thrive.
