The Federal Government has refused to fund the East West link to connect the Eastern Freeway to the Tullamarine and the west of Melbourne in last night’s Federal Budget.
Federal Member for Aston Alan Tudge MP said it was disappointing that the Federal Government had overlooked the critical project which is set to directly benefit Knox locals.
“For too long Knox locals have been faced with increased congestion and travel times into the CBD and across to the western parts of Melbourne.”
“It is very disappointing that the Federal Government has forgotten the people of eastern Melbourne by refusing to fund this important piece of infrastructure.”
“The Federal Coalition has long been committed to this project, promising to inject $1.5 billion to make it a reality.”
“In last week’s state budget the Victorian Government also committed to constructing the link.”
“This is the number one infrastructure project in Melbourne and is dependent on federal funding, but got rejected by the Gillard Government”
