The Federal Member for Aston, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, has urged the new State Government to build Melbourne’s East West Link.
Mr Tudge has been fighting for East West Link for several years on behalf of all Knox residents. It is a much needed infrastructure project for Melbourne that will reduce travel times, ease congestion on our major roads, and create 7,000 jobs for Victoria.
The East West Link would provide more direct routes to key destinations for Knox residents, including the airport and the city.
“Travel time from the Eastern Freeway to CityLink would be cut by up to several hours a week and 23 sets of traffic lights would be bypassed,” Mr Tudge said.
“Imagine if we didn’t have the CityLink network including the Bolte Bridge and Burnley Tunnel that Jeff Kennett’s Government built. State Labor opposed that too.”
“Victoria’s unemployment rate is 6.8 per cent and rising. The East West Link will provide 7,000 much needed jobs.”
“If Premier Andrews proceeds with tearing up the East West Link contract, it will cost Victorians $1.1 billion in compensation, and Victorians will lose $3 billion in federal funds provided for the project.”
“That’s a hit of $4.1 billion or $1,800 per Victorian household, for nothing.”
“Premier Andrews, don’t put 7,000 jobs and $1,800 per household on the bonfire. Get our city moving again and honour the contract,” Mr Tudge said.
