VICTORIAN LIBERAL NATIONALS HAVE THE RIGHT POPULATION VISION
20-September-2018
Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Planning, the Hon. Alan Tudge MP, has today welcomed the Victorian Coalition’s commitment to establish a Population Commission.
The Commission is designed to better plan rapid population growth in Victoria, particularly in Melbourne, taking advice from the Federal Government.
The State Opposition also reiterated its desire to see better distribution of growth across the city.
Minster Tudge said that the Victorian Coalition’s plans would work concurrently with policy planning at a national level.
“Prime Minister Morrison established a new population portfolio which is linked to infrastructure in order to better plan for our future growth,” he said.
Australia has been growing rapidly, but unevenly. Nearly all the growth has been in the three big capital cities, while we have other parts of Australian crying out for more people.
Our plan will involve continuing to invest in congestion busting infrastructure, work towards decentralisation to take pressure of Melbourne and the other big capitals, and have a more rigorous population planning policy.
The Victorian Coalition’s plans are good policies aligned with the Federal Government’s.
We need to ease the pressure on Melbourne and grow our regions and both the Federal Government and Victorian Coalition are committed to this.”
