The Hon Alan Tudge has secured $15m which will allow the construction of up to 500 carparks at Ferntree Gully station. The station carpark is often at capacity by 7.30am, which then pushes overflow into neighbouring streets. Upper Gully station has a similar problem.
This new carpark will fix the problems at Ferntree Gully but also take pressure off the Upper Gully station carpark.
Ferntree Gully station is a central one for people around the community, not just Ferntree Gully residents. It is not uncommon for Rowville and Lysterfield residents to drive up to Ferntree Gully to get onto the train.
The new carpark is likely to be multi-level, as this is the only way to increase the capacity. The carpark will remain free and the design will be developed in close consultation with local residents.
More car parks will make it easier and faster for locals to get onto the train and then back home again in the evening.
We are also putting in additional carparks further up the line – at Ringwood and Mitcham.
