Biography
Alan Tudge was elected to the Federal seat of Aston in August 2010.
Alan grew up in the eastern outskirts of Melbourne in Pakenham. His parents, having recently immigrated to Australia, were local vets. He was educated at the local primary school and then went to Haileybury College in Keysborough for secondary school.
Throughout school and university, Alan had many part-time jobs including apple picking, factory labouring, working at Myer Dandenong and as a bar hand. He completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts at university and later in his career did his Masters in Business at Harvard University.
Despite initially studying law, most of Alan’s career prior to entering Parliament was in business. He worked for several years with the Boston Consulting Group, both in Australia and in America, and most recently had been running his own small business advisory firm.
Alan has also had experience in government and in the community sector. He spent three years as a Senior Advisor to the Education Minister working to get more funding for school communities and more focus on the core skills of reading, writing and numeracy. He also spent several years as the Deputy Director of the Cape York Institute where he worked on some of the hardest problems in Australia’s remote communities, including welfare dependence and alcohol abuse.
Alan plays an active role in the community and has been involved with many local charities and organisations, including the Vermont South Lions, the Highway Parish in Wantirna and Vermonth South, and his daughter’s local school council. He has a keen interest in education and has been involved with getting Teach for Australia off the ground, a new non-profit that encourages young people into teaching. He also serves on the House of Representatives Standing Committee for Education and Employment.
Alan is a keen sportsman enjoying golf, running, and cycling. He is a North Melbourne supporter!
He lives locally with his wife Teri, and their two young daughters.
